What is professors for the future?

Professors for the Future (PFTF) is a year-long competitive fellowship program offered at the University of California - Davis. The PFTF fellowship program is designed to recognize and develop the leadership skills of outstanding graduate students and postdoctoral scholars who have demonstrated commitments to professionalism, integrity, and academic service. The PFTF program focuses on the future challenges of graduate education, postdoctoral training, and the academy. Fellows participate in formal training-in-teaching methods, ethics and professionalism, and roundtable panel discussions. Fellows also design a project to enhance the graduate or postdoctoral experience and professional development of their colleagues. Projects are presented at an end-of-year reception.

My Project: There’s an app for that!

My project focuses on digital tools and programs to accomplish two goals: 1) finding and building your online community and 2) communicating research. As graduate students and postdocs we find ourselves performing a balancing act among demands for researching and writing, teaching, our personal lives, networking, and building our brand. The digital world provides an amazing opportunity to simplify our complex lives, but not all apps are created equal. My project consists of a mix of in-person meetings (moved online due to covid19), a digital newsletter, podcasts, tip sheets, and training videos organized under my two goals.
